The male species is stressing me out

For the first time in my college career, I honestly enjoy all of my classes. I mean my poli teacher is a little boring...but whatever. I'm taking newswriting (eeeeep), film analysis (I've watched "The Godfather" and "Godfather II"), poli 101, history 140, and drama 120. I have never been on campus for the amount of time that I am on this semester. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday all day...literally. But whatever...I enjoy being a student. I'm even beginning to research the LSAT and finding out how to get enrolled into the Kaplan program. I am sure that when June comes along and I take the LSAT I will hate myself. But yay for studying.

Although this semester is off to a good track and the fact that we had an awesome football game last night (Butch Davis is the man), there is still a lot of stress in my life. The stress is coming from the men in my lives...wait - isn't that the usual case?!

First things first, my best friend/divo/gay boyfriend left for Hong Kong this week. He will be living there for a year. Let me reiterate...he will be living there for a YEAR. Once he conquers China, Australia, New Zealand, and the Beijing Olympics, he will return to the very exciting world of Apex, NC. I still can't believe the fact that I will not see him for a year. He studied abroad last year in Xiamen, China, but it was only for a few months. I am sure this year will fly by quickly...but gosh I am going to miss his loud ass. I wish I could afford the plane ticked to go out and see him. But I am just a humble girl from Apex, NC...and that would be a lot of shifts at Champps to work...haha. "Can I bring you some loaded potato chips? Could you tip me a lot?"

Ok, the next man to add some stress in my life is for something that he couldn't help. My stepdad, aka diddy or kimo-diddy, has been battling Chron's Disease since his early 20's. He's had more than enough visits to the hospital than anyone should ever have in their lives. But...he had to get his gall bladder removed. That seems routine, but the surgeons cut his intestines during the procedure. Basically...a surgery that should've taken an hour and a half took five hours. There was a chance they cut him and they didn't find it, so he had to stay in the hospital for a couple of days. He went home today and they think he should be fine. I think that Jim has beat the odds with this disease, but it makes me terrified every time he has to go to the hospital because he's been so much. I am so glad that he is back home. He's my diddy, and I love him so much. This caused a lot of stress this week and this weekend.

And finally, we're getting close to the 8 month anniversary of being together, but Ben and I are also getting close to the 2 month anniversary of not seeing each other. I think we are doing better than we were a couple of weeks ago, but we still have stupid arguments that spur from the stress of not seeing each other. I really think that when we see each other things will be just as wonderful as they've always been. I just have to be patient. On the bright note, his birthday is next Saturday. I got him a few things that I hope he will love, but I just wish I could be there to give it to him personally. I love him so much.

Anyways, three of the most important men in my life are causing me a smidge bit of stress but hopefully it will subside and I will begin to stress on things I usually stress on: school, dance, sleep, etc.

Holy Canolies it's been a while...Happy Summer!

As evident in the title, I have not blogged in a long time. The last time I blogged was when that idiot from Duke decided to give Tyler Hansbrough a bloody nose at UNC. He didn't get an academic scholarship for sure. But anyways, I am far far from that angry girl. I have now moved on to an exhausted girl.

It's June 21st and I am in the full swing of summer. This does not mean days at the pool sipping on Corona (ahhhh that sounds so nice). This means WORK. During the year I STUDY and DANCE. During the summer I WORK. You don't believe me? Well...I have a job at Champps Americana at Southpoint as a server and I work about five shifts a week. But that is just the beginning. I am also an intern at WDCG (aka G105) and WNCN (aka NBC-17). My major is broadcast journalism and I am not sure if I want to get into TV or radio...so I decided to intern at BOTH. Yea...it sounded like a good idea at the time - but I fear I have filled my summer plate. Oh wait did I forget to mention I also work at a club in Chapel Hill on the weekends? Well if you are keeping count I have two jobs and two internships. And just in case you forgot there are only seven days in a week. My week is purrrrrty full.

This week is also a little more complicated because I have taken on another duty - cat/house sitting. My good friend from growing up asked me to stay at her condo and take care of her cats in my down time. And of course I said SURE!!! I don't know when to stop.

I consider myself a work-a-holic and this summer is a great demonstration of that. I usually have a job or two over the summer...but not four. I hope I am not getting worse.

I know it sounds like I am in pure work-hell...but I am actually enjoying myself. I love my internships. G105 is soooooo much fun. I love all the people there. We have a blast - especially at Club 105, live from Hi-5 in downtown Raleigh. The pictures below are from one of those nights. NBC-17 is not as fun per-se, but I really like the people I work with and I am getting a lot of experience. Besides - we don't have shows at clubs like G105 so I can't really compare.

Me and Brody

Josh, me, Wheela

I don't really loveee my job at Champps because sometimes I have assholes that don't tip me, but I love the people I work with so that job is bearable. I also make pretty good money so I can't complain because I love money. I do have a new found image of shopping. When I want to buy something I think about the hours I spent on my feet and I re-think if I really need that thing that I want to buy. I've become very cheap.

My summer is very work-involved but I also have another HUGE factor that affects my stress levels. I am a victim of a long distance relationship. Ben has a job at the International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head Island, SC. I am sooooo proud of him and all of his accomplishments (he just got a villa - yay!), but the distance sucks. I love him so much and I don't see myself with anyone else...so the distance is going to be a test of our love and commitment. Let's just say the next two years are going to be a challenge but one that I purposely put myself in. I saw him a couple of weeks ago and I am going in a couple of weeks. Here are a few pictures from my last trip.

He's so cute!

After we got some ice cream

Hilton Head Island, SC

I think the only thing that gets me through the weeks of working is the light at the end of the tunnel. That light is Ben. Just knowing that I am going to see him in a couple of weeks makes me forget about the lack of sleep and lack of down time. I know I get cranky and lonely and he'll get the effects of that stress, but he puts up with me. He has been in a long distance relationship before and he knows how it goes. I don't. I am very new to this whole game but I am really trying to not be a nag. I guess he thinks that if I didn't really care I wouldn't get upset. Being sad is a good thing??? I don't know maybe I'm trying to rationalize myself crying every now and then because I'm a state away. I must be a greedy bitch that wants Ben in Raleigh haha.
Well I guess I should be wrapping up the first blog I've written in a few months. I will probably write again when I'm done with all of this craziness and about to start my Junior year of college. THAT'S CRAZY!!!
Oh ps...the UNC Dance Team placed 3rd in the nation and I never blogged about it. WHOO HOO GO DANZ Team!

"I Didn't Mean to Hit the Kid"

So in case you haven't heard, Gerald Henderson broke Tyler Hansbrough's nose.

Ok...let me back up...Gerald Henderson plays basketball at Duke. Tyler Hansbrough plays basketball at Carolina. Gerald elbowed Tyler with 17 seconds to go in the game. Duke was down by 13 or 14. Gerald is a freshman. Tyler is a sophomore, last year's ACC Freshman of the year, 2006 All-Conference, best freshman in UNC history, etc.Basically, BIAS aside, Tyler is about something. Gerald's resume is quite shorter. Whether you like Tyler or not, intentionally fouling him in the Dean Dome didn't fly with the fans.

I was there. I was about 5 rows from the court (yay for Dance Team). My jaw still hurts from SCREAMING. Imagine 22,000 people screaming at the refs to "KICK HIM OUT, KICK HIM OUT." I don't know about Gerald, but I would have been slightly intimidated. If the foul was accidental, I would be nervous. I guess Gerald was not because he replied to questions, "I didn't mean to hit the kid."

Kid. Honestly Gerald? That is more than disrespectful. It's downright rude. He should have been given a quick P.R. lesson: no matter who you play, you need to be classy about the players. You did not have blood spilling out of your nose, so you shouldn't give any kind of lip.

But hey, I guess he learned from his coach. I mean after all, Koach K blamed ROY for his own player's bad choice. He basically said in a nutshell, "There was 17 seconds to go in the game, why was Tyler in?"

Oh I am sorry Mike...am I not mistaken that you regularly have Paulus and McRoberts in even when you are up by 20 points. Yea, I'm right.

My point is simple: Gerald intentionally fouled Tyler. He may haven't meant to break his nose, but he meant to invoke that much force. Gerald also was rude about the whole thing, and therefore deserves the suspension. I haven't heard Tyler say anything about Gerald on the record. UNC is classy I guess. Also, Coach K should not have made that comment about Roy. You can't mess with Roy and Tyler at UNC and get away with it. DUH. Look at this pic...AWESOME.

However, after talking this much smack I must say I feel sorry for Gerald. He is a freshman. That means for the next three years everytime he comes to the Dean Dome he will be greeted with 22,000 people that HATE him. Sure we boo like hell when Dookies come into the arena, but it will be all directed to HIM. Sure we hated JJ Redick with his horrible dramatics, but THAT WAS NOTHING COMPARED TO THIS. We will have pictures of Gerald Henderson under a bullseye. He will need a bodyguard.

Oh and P.S. Duke does play dirty. Look at this from last year...(notice the jersey number). I HATE DUKE.

O Britney, How I Miss Thee

I am sure that if you live on the planet that you have heard about poor Britney "Shears." Most people think she's gone crazy. I, on the other hand, am in a state of mourning. This is not the Britney that I grew up idolizing. This is not the Britney that I watched over and over in her videos and learned the coreography of her dances. This is not the Britney that I took notes from on how to have a bangin' tummy. That Britney is either gone forever or lost. I am praying for the second.

I am a Britney Spears fan. I am not going to hide it. Most people that are talking shit about her used to tie their shirts up in knots to show off their tummies too. I am not that hypocrite. I wish people would cut the poor girl some slack.

Nobody on this earth has had a flawless life. Everyone has had a moment or two in their lives that they wish they could erase. Whether it was a drunken night that you don't remember, or the time in high school when you yelled at your mom for no reason, something has happened to you that you probably could have prevented. Britney could have not married a douche-bag like K-Fed. Britney could have worn underwear that night she flashed the paparazzi. Britney could have kept her hair intact. But she didn't people...she did...oh my gosh...can it be...she made a MISTAKE.

This time in Britney's life reminds me of an actress that I love and admire because of her hard times in her life. Drew Barrymore was no perfect child. She was adorable in "E.T." She was not so adorable doing drugs in her early early EARLY teens. But Drew got back on the right track. Drew got clean and regained an amazing career. She's a fighter and without that dark time in her life she wouldn't be the person she is today. I am confident that Britney will come out of this dark time as a new and improved, grown up Britney.

So...in honor of my love and devotion (and the love and devotion of many of my friends), I have decided to write this blog and include some of my favorite pictures and videos. Enjoy!!!

LOVE HER.

Flawless

Need her trainer

Can't hate on the ass

Can't hate on that stomach

I like how this one is plain and modest...but with a hint of ass haha

This picture is def. airbrushed...but I don't care...I'd airbrush myself if I could

...And now here are some of my favorite videos:

UNC v. Dook - Greatest College Rivalry?

This has been quite a week in my college sports life. First, we suffered a quite embarrasing loss to our cross town rival NC State, but we then redeemed ourselves by kicking our other rival's ASS in their own home court. Yes - I am talking about Duke.

Now when I talk about THE rivalry, Carolina and Dook, I am certainly not talking about football. It's all about basketball in both of these schools. If I started talking about football rivalries my boyfriend would be all in my face jabbering on and on about Ohio State and Michigan. See...my boyfriend is a hard-core Buckeye...poor dear. So I am not going to open that can of worms...I'm going to stay in-state.

Speaking of in-state...sure we hate NC State, but it's for different reasons. They make fun of us and say we are a bunch of liberal hippies - we say they're a bunch of rednecks. We claim we're smarter, they claim they can tailgate better than we can. We just have a sibling-type rivalry. Deep down we love NC State, we just don't like them. But we have to love them because they also HATE Duke.

Duke and Carolina are very close...maybe 10 minutes without traffic or stop lights. We have the same schedule and very similar grade requirements. The only thing that is different about us is the simple fact that Duke is a private school and Carolina is public. I mean - we have a much more attractive student body and we don't have to cheer to that weasel Koach K...but that's minute details.

It's that simple fact that we are similar academic programs that fuels the fire for this huge rivalry. We're trying to get the same glory. We're trying to be the biggest basketball program in the state, in the ACC, in the east coast, and in the NCAA. The Triangle is said to be one of the best places to live in the country, so who's gonna win in the fight for the best college basketball team in the best place to live? Well...we did a couple of days ago.

Newsteam Assemble!

Hahahahahaha...such easy marks.

ESPN among many others have quoted the Carolina v. Duke rivalry as the "best" in the nation. In terms of basketball, I think there is NO contest. UNC and Duke have the best college basketball rivalry. Many think of Kentucky v. Louisville, Indiana v. Purdue, Arizona v. UCLA...but nothing beats mine!

I think the greatest way to tell if your rivalry is the best one is to watch the television. If you have a commericial about your rivalry, then your rivalry is iron-clad. Observe the commericial featuring my baby's Buckeyes:

Now, observe some commercials/videos featuring my Tarheels:

Basically...the media doesn't lie. I guess Ohio State v. Michigan for football and UNC v. Duke for basketball. I'm so proud, and my boy is so proud of me.

I Thought I Was in College?

I go to the University of North Carolina. Yes. North Carolina. The South.

Why has it snowed twice in one month? That is NOT a North Carolinian thing to do.

Snow + North Carolina Roads = DISASTER. Therefore, when it does snow I do not want to make the commute to class. My apartment provides a shuttle/bus system, but I'm not so sure about the skills of the drivers in wintery conditions.

So...when I am trying to stay safe I am put in a horrible conflict: the dreaded ATTENDANCE POLICY.

But wait...attendance policy? I thought I was paying for this education?

My 8am class that I have on Tuesday/Thursday has a very strict "One Unexcused Absence" policy. That one absence that I am allowed to have is when I go to Nationals in April for dance team. So...basically I can never miss a class at 8am. I think that is pretty ridiculous.

Why is it that professors can put extreme absence policies on college students? We all don't live at home with our mommies and daddys and take the bus to school. Some of us work. Some of us are married. Some of us are parents. Some of us live 15 minutes away and can't walk to campus on snowy/icy days. We aren't being paid to go to school. We are paying to go to school. Sooooo - if I never wanted to go to class they shouldn't be able to do a damn thing. They are still getting their checks (and our tuition hikes I might add). Granted - the attendance policies make me go to class when my lazy ass doesn't want to get out of bed...but we should be more mature about our decisions.

We shouldn't need our professors to be our mommies and tell us to come to class. We are adults. We are supposed to be in "the real world." Therefore, we should be smart and mature enough to get our asses out of bed when we need to go to class and stay in when it's icy. Those decisions should not affect our grades. So if it snows again and I don't want to risk an accident...my grade shouldn't drop!

Yay for snow.

I'm not a Chuck Norris fanatic...but...

It has been a long time since my last post and I apologize (especially to my good friend Lyndo who MADE me blog). I am in 17 credit hours this semester and it takes up a lot of time. I am also in the beginning of the competitve season for college dance teams - Nationals is the first week of April - and putting together our routine is so stressful. I could blog all about that stress...but I want to blog about something funnier.

For some reason that I am trying to still figure out, Americans seem to be obsessed with the CHUCKSTER. Yes...Chuck Norris. His little cameo in "Dodgeball" stole the movie. He put up a thumb...ONE THUMB...and everyone freaked out. So in honor of this American obsession...I have compiled a list of Chuck Norris jokes. I am not going to take credit for these...my good friend Robert sent them to me one night and I thought they were hilarious. I know any Chuck Norris fans will love them too. Even if you are not a fan...they're still pretty humorous.

1. When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Chuck Norris.

2. Once a cobra bit Chuck Norris' leg. After five days of excruciating pain, the cobra died.

3. Superman owns a pair of Chuck Norris pajamas.

4. Chuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".

5. The movie Anaconda was filmed in Chuck Norris' pants.

6. Chuck Norris had a paper route when he was younger; there were no survivors

7. Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.

8. Some kids piss their name in the snow. Chuck Norris can piss his name into concrete.

9. Chuck Norris' calendar goes straight from March 31st to April 2nd; no one fools Chuck Norris.

10. Chuck Norris was originally offered the role as Frodo in Lord of the Rings. He declined because, "Only a pussy would need three movies to destroy a piece of jewelery."

11. The saddest moment for a child is not when he learns Santa Claus isn't real, it's when he learns Chuck Norris is.

12. When God said, "Let there be light", Chuck Norris said, "say please."

13. We all know the magic word is please. As in the sentence, "Please don't kill me." Too bad Chuck Norris doesn't believe in magic.

14. Rosa Parks refused to get out of her seat because she was saving it for Chuck Norris.

15. Chuck Norris was once charged with three attempted murdered in Boulder County, but the Judge quickly dropped the charges because Chuck Norris does not "attempt" murder.

16. When Superman squeezes a lump of coal, he creates a diamond. When Chuck Norris squeezes a lump of coal, he creates an African child to work in his diamond mines.

17. Chuck Norris doesn't play "hide-and-seek." He plays "hide-and-pray-I-don't-find-you."

18. We once had a bachelor party for Chuck Norris. He ate the entire cake before we could tell him there was a stripper in it.

19. Chuck Norris is currently in a legal battle with the makers of Bubble Tape. Norris claims "6 Feet of Fun" is actually the trademark for his penis.

I hope that all of you enjoy these jokes. If some are politically incorrect I apologize...it's all in good fun!

xoxoxoxo,
Elizabeth

America's Next Top Model Marathon = Heaven

If you are a woman or a gay man you know that on VH1 there has been an "America's Next Top Model" marathon on this week. Actually - I know some straight men that watch it too...but they want to keep that on the DL.

I think that this show is wonderful. I think it is wonderful because Tyra is crazy and that is always fun to watch, the women are beautiful but drama-filled, and the show is funny in general. "Miss" J and Mr. Jay are hilarious...especially when "Miss" J walks arounds the runway with "her" fabulous legs. If you don't believe me about Tyra...check this out:

All of those things make the show great, but for me what makes it addicting is the photography. I am obsessed with photography...and high fashion photography is awesome. I LIVE for photography and the pictures in this show are really wonderful and diverse. Look at some of these examples of the current winner, CariDee English:

She is FIERCE!!! Here are some other pictures that I randomly found that I love:

So beautiful Tyra

So diva

This is Amanda Swafford...her eyes are awesome

This is Yoanna House, winner of Season 2

Eva Pigford, winner of season 3

If you want to see more pictures, go to the UPN/CTW??? website and go to "America's Next Top Model" because they have portfolios in the site. The pictures are beautiful! Screw glamour shots...I want one of these photographers to take my pictures. Here's my shot at ANTM...with my new HAIR COLOR:

FIERCE?! I THINK SO haha...

New Year, New Beginnings

Everyone makes resolutions for the new year. I am no different. When I look back at 2006 there are a lot of things that I want to change about myself. Well I take that back - not change...but improve.

First of all, I really need to work on my habits with money. I need to learn how to SAVE. My car is a great car but if something were to happen to it, I would not have the money to fix it. I need to buy less groceries too - I end up throwing a lot of food away because it goes bad. I need to fix my impulses with spending in general I think.

Secondly, the cliche' resolution: lose weight. I want to really tone my stomach...have that great tummy that does not move. I work out all the time but as people say, "Abs are made in the kitchen." Therefore, I need to cut out junk...at least at night. That means no eating if I am out and its like 2am...no biski's haha.

Thirdly, I want a new look to hopefully go with my better bod (haha). I want to take out the highlights, and maybe go back to my natural color or darker. I sound just like a girly-girl, but I have had this color since 7th grade and I want a change. Here are some ideas...first - showing my color now:

That is my color now...very light brown. My natural color isn't that much different, so I might be putting in some low-lights. Here are some ideas for my new hair color:

great color!

I love Natalie Portman's look. I wasn't sure about the color at first because I am kind of pale...but when I thought of Natalie I realized that she looks HOT as a pale woman with darker hair. I also really like Anne Hathaway's look. I think her color is a little too dark, but with some highlights in her hair...I would really like it. I like her length too:

I love her bangs!

I hope that my new hair color will make the baby blues (eyes) POP. When I go to get my hair did tomorrow (yea I said hair did), I will hopefully leave as a newer and darker Elizabeth.

My last resolution as a new brunette that is real toned is to un-complicate (is that a word?) my love life. I am very Type-A...and so therefore I do not like gray areas. It's either black or white in my world; however, my love life has not been that way at all. So hopefully I can figure out exactly I want from a guy. I guess I don't know myself completely yet..so I hopefully can grow this year and learn just what Elizabeth wants. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this year will be FIERCE (I'm watching America's Next Top Model...). Love you all...HAPPY NEW YEAR!
